Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the problem of migratory species that have been affected by illegal acts in the limits of the Galapagos Exclusive Economic Zone, in relation to the increase of fishing fleets in the zone. This has resulted in the decline and detriment of marine species and their ecosystem. Ecuador, like other countries, has signed multiple treaties for their protection and conservation, setting aside safe areas called marine protected areas. However, the problem lies in the migratory route of the species, since they do not know borders and when they leave the protected areas, they run the risk of being captured by ships in the open sea. It should be noted that there is no adequate regulation for these species on the high seas. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and review the treaties that protect them so that they can be applied in a suitable manner in practice.
